We are in the process of mapping out the key players involved in pushing through this draft, and especially those who are persistent in including the contested clauses as outlined in the Joint Statement. Here’s what you need to know:
-The current Code of Conduct was placed under review by the Principal’s Task Force on Community Relations. Click here to send an email to Principal Karen Hitchcock.
-The Senate Committee on Non-Academic Discipline (SONAD) is in charge of coming up with the draft and submitting it to the Senate for ratification. SONAD is currently in charge of revising the draft before submitting it to Senate. The chair of SONAD is Georgina Moore (Secretary to the Senate). The secretary is Harry Smith (Co-ordinator of Dispute Resolution). Both work for the University Secretariat, and have offices located in Mac-Corry building, B-400.
Other members of SONAD are: Caitlin Adair (AMS Commissioner of Internal Affairs), Mike Brown (Electrical Engineering ‘10), Jacob Mantle (Political Studies ‘10), Johsa Manzanilla (Rector), Rebecca Menziems (Staff – University Registrar), Philip Osanic (Faculty – Law and Business), and Arash Farzam-Kia (SGPS President).
It is important to keep in mind that some people on SONAD are open to the idea of cutting the contested clauses from the Code, while others are not. We are currently demanding that individual members of SONAD take a strong and public position on clauses 7, 9, 11 and Considerations bullet 2 (see Joint Statement).
- Once SONAD has completed its recommendations, the draft will be submitted to the University Senate for ratification. At this point, the Senate can both amend that document and vote for or against it. Currently, this decision is slated for the February Senate meeting.
